Obama Landslide!!
Not sure did you catch it, but at the top of his victory speech in Chicago, President-Elect Barack Obama publicly included gays and lesbians in his vision for a new society.
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. …
It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states.
This new farming has become almost routine from our new president-elect. In August, similar language at then Sen. Obama’s acceptance speech in Denver. In a November 2007 interview with Christian Broadcasting Network, the would-be nominee said basic hospital visitation for gay couples was not a “special privilege.” On the campaign trail in Texas before a predominately black audience, Obama addressed homophobic remarks by saying it was “not very Christian” to criticize gays.
It’s very nice to have a seat at the table.
