45th Anniversary of “I Have A Dream” Speech
Today, Thursday August 28th, 2008 marks the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream Speech”. This speech was delivered during one of the most important, if not the most important civil rights demonstration in the history of the United States: The 1963 March on Washington, DC. The chief organizer of this march was Bayard Rustin, an openly gay Black man who can be seen in the photo above, behind Martin Luther King, Jr., to the right of the man with the white hat on (for photo source click here) . It is amazing to think that 45 years to the day of this speech, that the Democratic party is electing its first ever Black nominee. Many believe this is no coincidence, but fate and divine intervention being exemplified for us. For many, November can’t come soon enough!
